Nitrate ReductionThe FI-NITRATE filter is a strong base anion exchange resin that removes nitrates preferentially in the presence of sulfates and other divalent ions. Because nitrate does not evaporate the way chlorine does, boiling, freezing, or letting water stand does not reduce the nitrate level. Supplied in the chloride form as moist, tough, uniform spherical beads, this advanced nitrate filter cartridge uses selective resin that can effectively reduce the nitrate level your FROM incoming water source. The FI-NITRATE has a 10 micron nominal rating and has a long service life capable of treating up to 5,000 ppm (mg/L) of nitrate in water at a very fast flow rate with low pressure drop. Filter life in gallons can be calculated by dividing 5,000 by the feed water nitrate's ppm (5,000/xx ppm = Filter Life in Gallons). Competing ions, especially sulfate should be accounted for when calculating capacity. Nitrates have no detectable color, taste or smell at the concentrations involved in drinking water supplies, and they do not cause discoloration of plumbing fixtures, so they remain undetectable to our senses. Often found in rural areas, nitrate levels should not exceed 10 mg/L. This is especially important for newborn infants of up to six months because their digestive system are particularly susceptible to nitrates. Individuals who continued exposure at above acceptable levels can cause diuresis and increased starchy deposits and hemorrhaging of the spleen. Influent and effluent nitrate levels should be monitored to ensure adequate removal. Benefits of Nitrate Removal |
