IRON HYDRO - 20 IRON WATER FILTER, HYDROGEN SULFIDE & MANGANESE REMOVAL SYSTEM

The IRON-HYDRO Whole House Iron & Hydrogen Sulfide water conditioner uses high manganese dioxide content to effectively remove iron, hydrogen sulfide and manganese from the water. When water comes into contact with the manganese granules, iron and manganese are oxidized and precipitated out of the solution and hydrogen sulfide is reduced by oxidation to an insoluble sulfur precipitate. These contaminants are then filtered out downstream by a sediment filter. The IRON-HYDRO is capable of handling up to 10 ppm iron, 3 ppm hydrogen sulfide, and 5 ppm manganese without the use of additional oxidizers and can be operated within a broad pH range without adding additional pH amendment to the iron removal. The high (85%) manganese dioxide content of our media allows it to out perform Greensand and Birm and deliver superior oxidation/filtration capacity and durability.

Designed specifically for whole house filtration, this system supports a significantly high service flow rate per bed size with superior particle strength to sustain regular backwashing. Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) can be the most important factor to take into consideration in certain waters. Highly reducing waters may cause premature exhaustion or even destruction of the media bed. Precautions can be taken prior to installation that can prevent ORP problems. Use one of the screening tests and follow the instructions below if the subject water has reducing properties that will require additional oxidants.

The use of additional oxidizing agents (oxygen, chlorine, Ozone, hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, etc.) is recommended. Oxidizers will not adversely affect the media. As a matter of fact, they will enhance its performance. They super-oxidize the media, which enables the media to perform quicker and keep cleaner. It is always a safe practice to install an oxidation method upstream (in front) of the media bed.

Note: Must use a calibrated ORP meter. Any reading that is above a negative 170 millivolts indicates that the media can be used effectively without additional oxidants. Any reading falling below a negative 170 millivolts indicates that additional oxidants will be required.
