How to Flush and Sanitize an APEC Reverse Osmosis (RO) – 45 system
When the RO system and tank are contaminated, they need to be thoroughly flushed and sanitized before putting in new filter cartridges, and restoring the system back to use. Please follow the steps below to clean out the RO system and tank.
Basically, we will drain out the old water in the tank. Take out all the old filters to empty out the housings. Put some bleach (chlorine) into stage-1 housing, and then close up all the housings. Feed cold water into the RO system, which will send the chlorine to all parts of the system. Then Read more
APEC Reverse Osmosis (RO)-45 System Filter Change Instruction
Changing Stages 1, 2, 3 Pre-Filters:Â (should be changed at least every 12 months)
- Turn OFF cold water supply to RO system. Turn OFF the tank ball valve. Lift up RO faucet lever briefly to relief the built-up pressure inside the RO system. This will make opening the housings easier.
- Open housing:Â Have the RO standing upright. Slip the plastic wrench onto the #1 housing. Looking down from a top view, you should open the housing turning clockwise. If necessary, Read more
How to Re-Pressurize Your Tank
Please follow the steps below to re-pressurize your tank on your RO system:
Steps:
- Turn off the feed water supply to the RO.
- Drain the old tank completely thru the spigot. Read more
Reverse Osmosis (RO) – 45 Filter Change Schedule
Stages 1, 2, 3 Pre-Filters: Replace every 12 months
- Private well water source: may need to replace pre-filters sooner than 12 months due to heavy sediments and other particles.
Stage-4 Membrane:
- City Water: Replace every 3-5 years depending on input water quality, water usage, and pre-filter change maintenance. Read more
Long Term RO Storage Procedures (1-3 years):
If you don’t use your RO system for an extended period, there are 2 ways to store the RO depending on whether you need to de-install the system or not.
- If the RO remains hooked up to your pipes: During idle period, just turn OFF the feed water (close the needle valve), and close the tank’s valve, let the RO stand as is. When ready to use the RO again, just drain out the old tank of water. Let the tank fill up, drain out the tank again to flush the system. The 3rd tank of water is ready for use. Read more
How to Protect Reverse Osmosis (RO) from Freezing Temperatures
If you must leave your RO system idle in possibly freezing temperatures, please follow the steps below to help protect the RO from cracking under freezing temperature.
- Turn OFF the cold water supply to the RO system.
- Drain out all water from storage tank through the dispensing faucet. Close the tank’s shut-off valve. Read more
How To Sanitize The Reverse Osmosis (RO) System
Here are the steps to sanitize your RO system.
- Shut off main valve (Point X )
- Dispense water from Pure Water Faucet (completely dispense water) Read more
Flow-Restrictor Replacement (APEC RO Systems)
The Flow-Restrictor is located on the black drain water output line, sitting behind the membrane housing. It is used for restricting the drain water flow that is discharged from the membrane housing.
How to replace the Flow Restrictor:
- Â To reach the flow-restrictor, pull the membrane housing out from its bracket, exposing the flow-restrictor for replacement. Read more
